Slipping Beauty

Around the time he was finishing up DAREDEVIL, still working for Topps on varous projects and just beginning his association with Tower, Wally Wood began a series of naughty fairy tale parodies that ran in the magazine CAVALCADE. These were called FAR-OUT FABLES. From 1967, here's all three pages of SLIPPING BEAUTY courtesy of reader Norman Boyd who spotted them in an old UK fanzine! Thanks for sharing, sir!

  1. Just want to thank you for posting these beautiful pages, and all the rare work you show here. I was happy when I stumbled upon your site today... I have been a fan of Wood, since I first started my intrest in comics as a kid back in the early 70's. I first found out about him through collecting early Mad magazines, then learned of his EC work, and began gobbling up the gladstone reprints of that stuff. Wood truly deserves a seat at the round table of great illustrators of his day. Thank you again for giving us a chance to gain an even greater insight of his creative genius.

  2. Cool story. It manages to combine "Snow White", Cinderella" and "Sleeping Beauty" (3 classics all done by Disney) in one, with "The Frog Prince" (and maybe a couple other things) tossed in for good measure. I wonder if anyone out there has the original printing-- it's GOT to look better than this amateur foregin reprint. (Looks like someone at Staples didn't have their copiers tuned up... AGAIN.)
