Fantasy Illustrated 7 Revisted

Back in February, we ran this in black and white. Since many old fanzines featured black and white covers, it never occurred to me that this one might have actually been in color. So imagine my surprise when I saw this color version.

One can find some Wood influence (and I believe even some Dan Adkins influence in the skies) in this sci-fi illustration by Wood protege Ralph Reese but it's also a good look at his own, unique style.

The Werewolf Legend

The cool but too infrequently updated BLACK N WHITE AND RED ALL OVER site posts the original art pages to one of Woody's earliest EC strips, done in collaboration with his then partner, Harry Harrison and veteran sci-fi and comics writer Gardner Fox.

The Nickel Library

THE NICKEL LIBRARY was a fun idea that was done under somewhat shady circumstances and never got anywhere near its planned 500 issues. Basically, each one is one page, costing a nickel, highlighting a cool, rare comics-related image. The goal was to have 500 which one could then collect and store in a binder. Wood appeared several times including with this highly detailed piece probably from or intended originally for one of the digests.
