  2. awesome; i've got the collected edition but this gives a sense of the excitement I would have felt if I had seen the issues out brand new (I'm not sure how successful they were though. I read that they mostly sold em at the military PX)

  3. These? Nah. I doubt if any military PX ever carried these. These were the covers of the 4 volumes Wood did in the late seventies. Along with 4 similarly odd-sized volumes of SALLY FORTH. These were sold via mail order from Wood and later his FOO fan club (also him). They were advertised in the fan press and some dealers carried them at Cons but not many. I got Woody to sign mine as I ordered them from him. Had to sell them a few years ago, though.

You're probably remembering hearing about the original comic strips themselves which ran in the tabloid newspaper OVERSEAS WEEKLY, a newspaper available mainly on military bases.

  4. Too bad for Woody the distribution for indies was still 30 years off. Damn.

  5. You say "similarly odd-sized"--what size were they? I also have the collections of Cannon and Sally Forth but don't have these covers. Great!

  6. The 4 self-published CANNON and SALLY FORTH books were roughly the size of record albums.
