This explains a lot; I love Wood but have note the issuance of many rather low quality Wood items especially from Vanguard. I guess Spurlock is trying to monetize the intellectual property in a way to generate cash for the family. The Frazetta clan (who strike me as a pack of hyenas after their father's estate...google news articles if you doubt) have done this and an absolutely atrocious amount of poor quality publications resulted. It is sad when money trumps quality. I'm seeing that regarding Wood and it makes me sad.

ReplyDeleteThe problem with Vanguard isn't low quality, but lack of taste and editorial judgment.
ReplyDeletedrawn, I agree, that's what I meant by low quality. Their packaging is quite nice.
ReplyDeleteI'm frankly looking very forward to the Fantagraphics book, CAME THE DAWN & OTHER STORIES by Wally Wood.
ReplyDeleteDana, so am I. Since it is not being published by vanguard but by fantagraphics I anticipate it will be awesome.
